Embracing Africa to AFCON (African Cup of Nations)

 Cameroon, the land variously described as the “Microcosm of Africa”, “Africa in Miniature” and the “Spirit of Africa” is welcoming Africa ---from the East, West, North, and South of the continent---to the Cameroonian space that is in the heart of Africa as it hosts AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations).  African Hospitality demands that we treat our guests well during their stay at our home. That means giving our guests peace, security, joy, satisfaction, and memories to live for; that means giving our guests a reason to treat us well when we happen to be in their home countries. In Africa, we make it a point of putting aside our differences, even if it is for a short time, just to make sure that our guests feel welcome to our home.

 

So, I am calling on all the armed belligerents in Cameroon (Boko-Haram, Amba, and the Government) to put aside any plans for offensive actions that risk putting civilians and our African guests in the crossfire. Any force that targets the participants in AFCON (the teams, supporters, and the public) makes itself Irrelevant as an “Enemy of the People”. They cross into the dehumanized realm of “Terrorism” by doing so.

 

Cameroon was the crossroads of African migrations, which explains why elements of all the major linguistic and sub-racial groups of Africa are indigenous in Cameroon. Let us use AFCON to strengthen that aspect of our history that promises to make us the prototype of the “NEW AFRICA” after we resolve our differences in the aftermath of AFCON.

 

Let us make our visitors feel they are at home in Cameroon.

The Faction for Southern Cameroons (Anglophone Cameroon) in the Social Democratic Front when it was Founded in 1990

Rejecting Ethno-Fascism in Cameroon

I am concerned by some of the terms some Cameroonians with ethnofascist tendencies  are using to befuddle if not amaze or hoodwink unsuspecting Cameroonians into going along with their game plans to divide us even further and create microstates based on their dominant ethnicities or group of related languages, or based on a present or former geopolitical entity and other identifiers. They use examples that are solidly nations or nation states  to lend credence to their application of the word(s) nation, nationhood to the geopolitical entities they want to create, geopolitical entities that are diverse, multi-ethnic and even multi-religious; they are trying to create new geopolitical entities where other Cameroonians would be excluded from.
